Attending Anger Management Class for Children

Learning anger management for children is a requirement for any parent, since children will get angry at times and will not control their anger properly. There are other times when the children’s anger gets so out of control that they begin to be a danger to themselves or others. When this is the case, then it is time for more extreme action, and parents might enroll in an anger management class for children. These anger management classes for children are designed to give them the tools that they need to be able to calm down before they become too angry and react with an outburst that is harmful. They also often give parents the techniques that they need in order to work with their children on a regular basis to help them to control their anger.

Techniques

There are different techniques that are taught in anger management classes for children. These classes encourage parents to practice these techniques with their children during times that they are not angry so that they can become more automatic when the child does get angry. Many of the techniques are substitute behaviors that the children can use when they are angry instead of lashing out.

For younger children, there are certain techniques that are taught in anger management classes for children such as pretending that they are in a beautiful place – wherever they find that they like to go, such as a tree house, a castle, or other pretend environment that is pleasing to them. They can also use the technique of pretending to blow bubbles, which is helpful on two counts. First, it gets the children’s minds off of the anger since they are pretending to blow the bubbles, and it also makes them take long, slow breaths, which is also relaxing to their bodies.

For older children, there are other techniques that are often taught in anger management classes for children. If the children are good at writing, they might use an anger journal so that they can take a time out, write what is bothering them, and close the journal and leave it there until they can deal with it in a calm manner. They might also be taught how to use art as a means of expressing their anger in a healthy manner. Exercise might also be introduced in the anger management classes for children as a way to get out excess energy, as well as getting them away from the situation so that they have time to calm down.
